In Defense of Food

We don't typically write book reviews, yet it's also unusual for lots of Jason's Deli employees to discuss a book. In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollan has changed all that.
The book – which has become known for a simple slogan: "Eat Food; Not Too Much; Mostly Plants" – also describes the food philosophy behind Jason's Deli.
Rusty Coco, a co-founder of Jason's Deli and the brains behind our menu, is a strong proponent of fresh vegetables, fruit, and all of our recipes. He's also the guy who launched Jason's into being one of the first companies to ban trans-fats, MSG and nearly high fructose corn syrup (only four items left).
Pollan's book delves into non-sexy topics, such as the correlation between western diseases and food consumption, the efficacy of food science and the evolution of food product labeling. Yet Pollan has written a very readable and important follow up to Omnivore's Dilemma that is worth checking out of your local library.
Meanwhile just know that your friends at Jason's Deli are working away creating new menu items out of Real Food with fresh ingredients, not processed food.
