The Real People Behind the Real Food
Delivering food to customers in the middle of a Texas summer isn't easy for anyone.
Yet you don't hear Tony Gayles, a delivery driver for Jason's Deli in a northern suburb of Austin complaining about it.

"I love my job and just try to make people feel comfortable," said the 35-year old Gayles who is originally from LA.
While Tony is a laid back and charismatic guy, some might assume that his job is harder than most as Tony is deaf.
"Being deaf is not an obstacle for Tony," says John Riley, his boss. "Tony's communication skills are astounding," said Riley, the General Manager of the Round Rock deli, who has overseen more than 500 employees in his 10 years with the company. "Tony is funny, professional and honest. The fact is: Customers love him."
It's rare for customers to fill out comment cards – and even less likely that they will mail them in – but John Riley and his managers proudly displayed cards sent via US Mail that read: "I love that guy, Tony, who delivered it!" Others say: "he is always friendly and goes out of his way."
Tony says his secret is: "even if you don't feel good, smile and make someone else feel good."
Riley says: "I have learned a lot more from Tony than just sign language. I've learned the importance of slowing down, looking people in the eye and giving people your full attention."
Joe Tortorice, the CEO and co-founder of Jason's Deli, whose company employs more than 6,500 people nationwide, says: "it's people like Tony that makes me proud not only of our company – managers and employees – but of all customers for being open minded and caring."
Thanks, Tony, for sharing your story with us.
