Remove Artificial Dyes and Colorings? Vote now!

Hello folks-

Once again we are investigating something commonly found in a lot of restaurants and want to get your feedback before moving forward. So if you can, please take a minute and answer this one important question.

The FDA divides 40 approved food colors into two categories: nine synthetic dyes that are subject to FDA certification and 31 colorings that are not (the latter are derived from minerals, plants, or insects).  Do you think the nine synthetic dyes should be banned from ALL food products, from food products primarily aimed at children due to the studies showing a correlation with ADHD, other behavior problems, etc or do you think the FDA should do nothing?

What do you think should be done regarding these 9 synthetic dyes?

Myself being a wanna-be vegetarian, I have a bigger problem with dyes derived from insects (or other animal products, if the case may be) than I do artificial dyes that only show a loose correlation to ADHD. HFCS has a lot of growing evidence of it being bad, but not all synthetic chemicals, preservatives, or other food products are bad. :-) I just don’t want Jason’s to go on a chemical witch-hunt and turn into the anti-vaxers of the food service world. ;-)

However, since there is a correlation and more investigation needs to be done before coming to a definite conclusion, I voted to ban from children in your poll, at least until more evidence comes to light to settle the issue.

Please consider putting a Jason’s Deli in Anderson, SC….the nearest one to us is in Greenville, SC and we cannot always travel there. I think it would do wonderful….
    Thanks!

The government is getting way too involved outside their lane!!
Colors and dyes affect different people in different ways. The red dye controversy from 35 years ago is my prime example. It did nothing to my oldest child; but it caused the youngest to become ALMOST uncontrollable. What did I do? I stopped feeding him anything that contained the dye - as a parent it was MY responsibility to take care of my child. I stopped buying those products - easy solution!!

Food is for nutrition. All food should be prepared with that in mind. NO additives should be allowed in the food whatsoever!!! We have been poisoning our population for decades with all the additives!!! Food should be prepared to preserve the natural qualities, i.e., enzymes and nutrients. Growers of our food should NOT be using pesticides and/or chemicals of any sort. The key is wholesome nutrition for our bodies!!! Our nation has many epidimics that stem from our constant consumption of chemical-ladened food that has too little nutritional value…the combination is killing us!!!

I have virtually no knowledge about the effect of the dyes mentioned but if there truly is evidence that the nine dyes are clearly the source of some medical problems for children/adults then they should be banned or modified to eliminate the problem(s.). But if this concern is just another global warming type joke without any support for the allegations, forget it and move on.

Food is always my passion and I have studied Food Science in Australia. My last assignment was to investigate food colouring. Interestingly the finding was synthetic colouring is not harmful to the body as much as people think. Because you don’t “drink” them like juice, but you only consume as ingredients in food item.
I know ’synthetic’ doesn’t sound good at all, I too automatically feel so, but I guess we don’t need to be so sensitive, what do you think?

I personally think that synthetic dyes should be completely banned from all food. Why is it necessary to take food out of its original state?

Through modern technology we are learning so much that contributes to illnesses, bad behavior, etc. If any factual improvement can be made to our food, such as synthetic dyes, then remove them totally. I feel we would have much more to gain, than lose. Peggy Anderson

Thank you for bringing attention to this. There are countless children and adults affected negatively by additives in our food supply. If you don’t don’t think synthetic red dye is a problem, talk to a kindergarten teacher on Valentine’s Day.

I’m all for making food healthy, but at the same time it has to taste good . Your question on gluten free bread is not a yes or no question…….how does it taste? Will taking out the gluten make it a different texture or taste?
