American Diabetes Association: Alert! Day
At Jason’s Deli, we’re just naive enough to think we can make a difference.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with the ADA to spread the word about Alert! Day. According to our friends at the American Diabetes Association, recent estimates project that as many as one in three American adults will have type 2 diabetes in 2050 unless we take the steps to Stop Diabetes®.
We’ve shown our commitment to healthy food innovation by offering heart healthy items since the 80s, eliminating artificial trans fats in 2005, removing high fructose corn syrup from our menu in 2008, and we said goodbye to artificial dyes in 2010. We care about serving food that’s rich in nutrients and free of stuff we can’t pronounce — and we think this test from the ADA is incredibly important. Please take the risk test today … Read More »
No High Fructose Corn Syrup Allowed
High Fructose Corn Syrup Eliminated
Jason’s Deli eliminated High Fructose Corn Syrup from their food in 2008. They had already eliminated trans-fat and MSG and pride themselves in serving up healthy, organic, tasty salads, sandwiches and soups all across America. No Kidding
Feeding kids is fun in our delis, but we’re serious about trying to feed them better. We know from experiences with our own kids that they have to really like how food tastes — otherwise, forget it! And, kids like to pick. Our new kids’ menu has more tasty stuff and more choices like organic milk, little dippers and a new chicken wrap. We also did some good things that kids can’t taste, like cutting the menu’s sodium levels by 21%, saturated fat 20%, cholesterol by 17%, reduced total carbs 15% and calories by 10%. It’s all free of nitrites, too, with no nasty artificial trans fats, no processed MSG and no high fructose corn syrup (except in some of the fountain drinks).
Jason’s took care of it so parents don’t have to worry. We have plenty enough to worry about … Read More »
Working to lower sodium at Jason’s Deli
We have been on a mission since the early 1980’s to make our menu healthier and in the last few quarters, we started our attack on sodium. As of Spring 2009, we lowered the sodium in several (10) of our menu items by an average of 28% and with the introduction of our new Kid’s Menu in April we lowered the sodium there by 21%.
We are definitely not where we want to be with sodium and we are committed to improving what we offer as well as continuously searching for lower sodium options.
At Jason’s we believe in balance, moderation and choices. With no artificial trans fats, no MSG and no HFCS in our food, we are providing our guests with options to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.
In addition, our Salad Bar offers a wide variety of fresh … Read More »
Removing High Fructose Corn Syrup
Dear friends,
We have spent the week speaking with the press, which is honestly very new to us. Without a doubt, we would rather be in our test kitchen working with the team on lowering the sodium counts of our food and dabbling with some other wonderful new menu items, but for now everyone wants to talk about our big announcement – removing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) from the food.
Reporters keep asking this week, why did we do this? The primary reason was taste. We have done tons of tests and each time HFCS lost to cane sugar, honey and etc. We also read all the studies about the debate going on between scientists. Here’s what Dr. Richard Johnson – author of The Sugar Fix and medical professor at The University of Colorado at Denver has to say:
“Fructose itself is … Read More »
Cane Sugar Takes The Gold
Dear Friends,
Thank you for completing our survey. We never expected 800+ votes and we honestly had no idea what the outcome might be.
Unlike other voting systems, the popular vote counts with us and has already made a difference. In fact, we are speaking with a large soda company who still needs some persuading about switching away from high fructose corn syrup to cane sugar products; and we’re bringing the survey results and your voice to the table. So keep making comments to our blog and tell your friends to vote too. Of course, let them vote anyway that they would like to!
Thanks again,
The Jason’s Deli Family
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Everyone craves the tastiest, most deli-cious food that they can get; and, of course, a lot of people want healthy food, too. We can tell you that the purest food almost always tastes the best. Trust us, we have an R&D kitchen and we taste different versions of the same dish all the time. These are some of the reasons that got us to ban artificial trans-fats and MSG.
For more than a year, we have been looking into High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) for the same reasons. Today we are a few items away from victory. One obstacle is the soda fountain. Before we move further, we want your opinion.
